Doritos created a new humorous ad to promote its 'Flamin' Hot Limón' chips. The ad aired during the Grammy Awards, and it depicted Post Malone changing his name to Post Limón, as well as getting a Doritos face tattoo and engaging in other activities promoting Doritos' Flamin' Hot Limón chips. When the ad launched Post Malone also changed his social media accounts to Post Limón.
The new ad leverages both humor and celebrity recognition, which could combine to connect with consumers. Additionally, the band has a history of working with hip hop artists to promote its products, and last year Doritos launched a Super Bowl ad with Chance the Rapper and the Backstreet boys. The brand also worked with Busta Rhymes on another ad for the Super Bowl. It is clear that Doritos is not just aligning itself with individual artists, but with an entire genre of music.
