Animated Character Livestreams

Hasbro Created a Facebook Live Broadcast Starring Mr. Monopoly

Rather than setting up a Facebook Live broadcast with a camera and a live subject, Hasbro brought its Mr. Monopoly character to life through animation. In the style of a real life video, Mr. Monopoly took questions and gave answers in real-time and made other interactions with the audience. In total, three different kinds of technologies were used to bring the iconic board game character to life: physical motion capture, facial motion capture and real-time rendering.

Behind the scenes, Mr. Monopoly's movements were created with a person wearing a motion capture suit, which played a huge part in creating the figure's expressions and gestures.

The Facebook Live broadcast ties into the release of the Monopoly Ultimate Banking Game. Although Monopoly is an 80-year-old game, it's setting a precedent for other brands to follow on social media.
