Photographer Fabrice Monteiro's 'The Prophecy' collection warns audiences of the consequences of environmental damage.
The images portray the African landscape in a rather apocalyptic tone, dressing each model in theatrical garments made of garbage. Models are turned into larger-than-life creatures or monsters, meant to be fictional and exaggerated. Many of the garments worn by the models were actually sourced in garbage-ridden areas.
The frightening garbage-creatures pose triumphantly in various parts of Africa to depict a dystopian view of the world. Essentially, Monteiro is suggesting that the environmental damage we are inflicting on the Earth will one day prove to have deadly consequences. Although the monsters are only metaphors, they are a frightening reminder of how much waste the world actually produces.
