To help consumers put down their smart devices and engage more with their surroundings, designer Ekene Ijeoma has put together the LookUp platform that provides an encouraging app focused on public artwork. The platform offers constantly changing wallpaper that operates in the background of a smartphone's utilities. When users are stopped at an intersection, LookUp halts the function of all other apps as two eyeballs appear on the screen. The visual is meant to remind consumers to look around and take in the local area.
LookUp is simultaneously a prompt to spend more time actively living than immerse in the virtual as well as a safety feature. When users are stopped at an intersection, rather than scrolling through texts or updates LookUp ensures they are paying attention to what is going on around them.
