Mobility aids can sometimes have a cumbersome design that isn't easily stored between uses, so the conceptual 'Emergency Wheelchair' has been created to change this. The unit looks and acts like a small suitcase when not in use, and will reveal a wheelchair at the press of a button to keep those with mobility impairments prepared when traveling or in the event of an emergency. The unit can also evolve into a stretcher in case it's required to transport someone who is injured and have them ready for when first responders arrive for care.
The conceptual 'Emergency Wheelchair' is the design work of Chen Zhigang, Fan Xin, Hu Shiya, Liu Qiangjia and Zhou Chao, and is the winner of the 2018 Red Dot Design Concept Award.
