Swedish company Green City Ferries AB has partnered up with zero-emissions energy solutions firm Echandia as well as New Zealand-based Teknicraft and Italian company Studio Sculli to develop the Beluga24, an innovative electric catamaran that uses the latest and greatest battery and hydrogen fuel cell technologies to allow for emissions-free operations.
This electric catamaran will be crafted by Green City Ferries, who will utilize lightweight carbon fiber in the construction of a vessel that will also benefit from reduced drag. With Echandia contributing a high-tech fuel cell propulsion system, the cataraman will be able to navigate waterways without contributiong to pollution.
With ships and other large waterbound vessels implicated as major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, the advent of this innovative catamaran could spell the beginning of a sea change in the design and engineering of large watercraft.
