Wax and wick illuminators still offer a sort of ambient mood lighting that no electrical fixture with a dimmer can yet successfully surpass. But even though the candlestick has been around for hundreds of years, the Elas Candle Holder manifests itself as a marvelously modern object.
The Royal VKB piece still takes a traditionally-inspired shape with a broad flat base which narrows into a slender cylindrical receptacle. Jorree van Ast has even sculpted it to flare around the upper lip in an unusually whimsical asymmetrical fashion.
Not of crystal, ivory or a precious metal, the Elas Candle Holder is made of a light stretchy silicon, secured by a weight embedded in the bottom of its stand. As one of its most clever features, the Elas Candle Holder's pliable tongue lets you open and insert votives of various widths, since modern man should no longer have to shave down candles first.
