DOM Studio is a compact workspace designed by architect Marta Nowicka in Camber Sands, East Sussex. Positioned on a small plot near the shoreline, the building was conceived as a year-round retreat and studio adjacent to the architect’s home.
The structure draws on the protective character of nearby sea walls, using a distinctive curved profile and sloping facade designed to deflect strong coastal winds while maximizing solar exposure. Constructed almost entirely from reclaimed materials, the project incorporates recovered scaffolding planks, hollow concrete blocks, and wood-wool boards to create a deliberately raw and monolithic appearance.
The studio’s interior is organized around the building’s parabolic roof form, with a workspace positioned beneath the highest point and oriented toward a large picture window overlooking the landscape. A more intimate seating area and wood-burning stove occupy the lower section of the interior, while a bathroom and infrared sauna are located at the eastern end.
