The DisneyLife China launch is a subscription streaming service that resulted from a partnership between Disney and Alibaba. Disney chose to leverage the international attention garnered around the Star Wars: The Force Awakens to announce the exciting venture that will bring a variety of Disney's content to subscribers.
The DisneyLife China subscription is facilitated by a $125 Mickey Mouse-shaped device, which can be pre-ordered now for a single year subscription. The DisneyLife service has been compared to Amazon Fire TV or Google Chromecast and is plugged into a television in order to stream the digital content via the Internet.
The DisneyLife service has been available in the UK for some time at the price of $15-per-month. Notably, Disney is set to open the Shanghai Disney Resort in spring 2016.
