Using an online cloud storage system, Indian citizens can upload their digital driver's license and vehicle registration forms. DigiLocker is a free and secure service partnered with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India. The digital driver's license transportation initiative allows users to go paperless when driving, and eliminates the need to carry their ID with them on the road. The environmentally friendly approach also serves to reduce administrative costs and cut down on paper use.
Users can sign up with the mobile platform with a smartphone and sync their Aadhaar (an official biometric identity card) before being able to upload documents, electronically sign forms and share them as well. With 2.7 million registered users, DigiLocker is an example of how cloud storage can be used to create connected, smart cities.
