Europe’s largest car manufacturer Volkswagen AG reveals its big plans for 2016, at the Detroit Auto Show 2014. The Wolfsburg, Germany-based car-maker introduces a mid-sized sport-utility SUV vehicle specifically designed for life in North America coming in 2016. The released image of the 2016 model shows that the SUV will have a compact design and hatch-back-like rear, with the ability to hold seven passengers.

Volkswagen plans to invest more than $7 billion over the next five years in the North American car market in the attempt to grab a bigger share of the U.S. car market. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen CEO, announced at the Detroit Auto Show 2014 that the vehicle will look and feel similar to the CrossBlue concept Volkswagen introduced a year ago. The key features of the vehicle will include three-rows of seating, diesel and hybrid powered trains. The announcement is big news for Volkswagen’s North American competitors and gives Volkswagen enthusiasts something to look forward to in 2016.
