The architectural firm Atelier Carle has completed the design for the OAKV dermatology clinic in Ontario. The company was successful in transforming a standard commercial space into a more welcoming environment.
The dermatology clinic project addressed inherent challenges of the location — including a lack of natural light and privacy — by implementing a layout centered around a double-height atrium topped with a large skylight. This core space is surrounded by treatment rooms, with circulation corridors designed to provide a subdued, calming atmosphere. Atelier Carle's material selections were used to introduce warmth and contrast with the building's external surroundings. OAKV's facility also integrates a café and a retail area for cosmetics, creating a transitional zone between the public entrance and the private clinical areas.
