Black Sherry Single Malts

Ardbeg's Dark Reserve Is a Sherry-Heavy Malt

Ardbeg has created Dark Reserve for The Whisky Club, a single malt finished in unusually dark black Sherry casks that accentuate sweet fortified-wine notes. The expression was assembled by blending spirit matured in classic Bourbon-seasoned barrels with runs that spent time in deeply sherried wood, then given a final stay in intensely blackened Sherry casks. This unique cask profile is central to the bottling.

Black Sherry is produced in a manner similar to Pedro Ximénez, with sun-dried grapes concentrating sugars, and the resulting casks deliver an intensely dark colour and richer Sherry flavours to the malt. The whisky is bottled at 49.4% ABV and carries tasting layers of molasses, dates, muscovado sugar, ginger and clove threaded through Ardbeg’s trademark peat smoke and charred charcoal. The distillery cites smoked paprika and nutty, earthy accents.

For members in Australia and New Zealand this release offers a bold, Sherry-forward sip crafted for tactile, smoky drinking moments. It follows Ardbeg’s 2016 Dark Cove experiment and is being offered exclusively to The Whisky Club at AU$150/NZ$145 (US$107).
