Melbourne-based practice Austin Maynard Architects aimed to create an unobtrusive presence with its design which also has roots in sustainability. The project is described as "building a vertical hard tent rather than a holiday home."
Surely the aesthetic of the cylindrical house — dubbed the 'St. Andrews Beach House,' is quite elegant and unobtrusive. The natural exterior which is achieved through the subtle material use seamlessly integrates itself into the narrative of the surroundings. Moreover, the shape of the structure is made to make the most of the panoramic scene in the Mornington Peninsula.
