Customizable Clock Faces

Apple Extends StandBy to Other IPhones

Apple is bringing the iPhone Duo’s redesigned StandBy faces to more iPhones, letting users customize the charging-screen view with new clock options and more personal layouts. StandBy is the mode that turns an iPhone into a smart display when it sits horizontally while charging, and iOS 27.3 beta 1 expands that setup beyond the Duo.

The update adds redesigned Analog and Digital Clock faces, plus Calendar and Weather faces, and it brings Shared Albums support to Photos so users can pick which shared images appear. People with an iPhone 11 or later can also make multiple versions of the same face and swipe between them, which gives the display more than one look for different setups.

At a December release window, the move widens a feature that had been tied to one model into a broader part of the iPhone experience. That pushes StandBy from a showcase feature into a more flexible part of everyday charging, especially for users who want their lock-screen-style display to do more than show a clock.
