Apple is expanding iPhone Home Screen customization in iOS 27 with extra-large widgets that display far more information at once. The new size grows past the old large format, moving from a 4x4 layout to 4x6 and giving iPhone users, especially iPhone Duo owners, a nearly full-page panel.
Apple applies the format to more than 15 built-in widgets across 11 apps, including Calendar and Weather. Those larger views can keep more appointments or forecast details on screen before a tap is needed. The format works on any iPhone, though the bigger display of iPhone Duo gives it the clearest use case.
A widget that occupies almost an entire Home Screen turns the iPhone into a stronger at-a-glance dashboard for people managing dense schedules, lists, or media queues. It also widens what users will expect from built-in iPhone software, because one panel can now replace several smaller checks throughout the day.

Why This Trend Is Growing
- Full-screen Widgets
- Expansive widget formats create room for glanceable dashboards that compress tasks, schedules, and updates into a single home screen view.
- At-a-glance Productivity
- Information-rich home screens signal demand for mobile interfaces that reduce app switching and support faster decision-making throughout the day.
- Native Interface Personalization
- Built-in customization features are turning default operating system experiences into personalized command centers for work, planning, and media management.
Industries Being Reshaped
- Mobile Software
- Larger widget canvases expand the role of operating systems as proactive information layers rather than simple app launch environments.
- Consumer Electronics
- Bigger device displays gain added value when paired with interface features that make more screen real estate continuously useful.
- Productivity Technology
- Dashboard-style mobile tools present opportunities for calendar, task, and workflow platforms to deliver richer summaries without requiring full app engagement.
