Culture-Accommodating Quarries

DnA_Design and Architecture Create Cultural Spaces in Quarries

A quarry denotes a location where rocks, sand, and/or minerals are extracted from the surface of the Earth and a Chinese studio is turning such places in the Zhejiang Province into cultural spaces. The professionals involved in this interesting project is DnA_Design and Architecture.

According to Dezeen, there are thousands of abandoned quarries in the Jinyun county. Three of these quarries have already been converted into cultural spaces so far, providing a library, a performance venue, and an area for gathering. As part of this particular project, DnA_Design and Architecture needs to update six more abandoned excavation sites.

This project is a great example of how abandoned sites can be revitalized and harnessed to provide cultural spaces that are accessible to both locals and tourists.
