Peter Hapak Captures the Passion of Cuban Ballet Dancers

The backstage photo-reportage of the Cuban National Ballet's final rehearsals is sensitive, refined and channels elegantly the dancers' passion for their upcoming U.S. tour.

This sublime ballet photography was accomplished by TIME photographer Peter Hapak, a great appreciator of ballet himself, prior to the U.S. tour kick-off of the Cuban National Ballet. The images immortalize the focus, sacrifice and love these Cuban dancers put in all of their moves on and offstage.

The dance troupe, led by 90-year-old director general Alicia Alonso, is touring the U.S. with the ‘La Magia de la Danza’ ('The Magic of Dance') show, which includes a selection of passages from epic pieces like Giselle, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, the Nutcracker and Swan Lake. The Cuban National Ballet's tour has been applauded for the group's inspirational performances.
