Complex Community Centre Designs

Sanjay Puri Architects Designs Crest Nine

Sanjay Puri Architects has completed Crest Nine — a community centre for a gated villa enclave. The building is located on a steeply contoured hill overlooking the ocean in Anjarle, India.

Sweeping curvilinear form follows the natural gradient of the land with the entrance to Crest Nine positioned six metres below the access road level. The structure transitions from a simple curvilinear facade into a sequence of parabolic volumes of varying heights interspersed with courtyards and landscaped pockets. Sanjay Puri Architects used locally sourced laterite stone for the walls.

Crest Nine houses an indoor sports room, gymnasium, restaurant, bar, four guest bedrooms, a swimming pool level below with three pools, a health club, and an open cafeteria connected to a large naturally ventilated multifunctional deck.

Topography-responsive Architecture
Design approaches that adapt building massing to steep slopes offer potential for modular prefabricated systems tailored to irregular terrains.
Locally Sourced Material Integration
Using regional materials like laterite enables novel supply-chain models that combine vernacular aesthetics with low-carbon manufacturing techniques.
Mixed-use Community Wellness Hubs
Combining recreation, dining, lodging and health amenities within a single centre creates scope for platform-based services that unify bookings, memberships and onsite experiential programming.

Who This Affects Most

Hospitality and Leisure
Resort operators could leverage terraced, landscape-integrated architecture to reimagine guest experiences and diversify revenue through multiuse communal facilities.
Residential Development
Gated communities and developers may adopt courtyard-interspersed, naturally ventilated amenity centres to differentiate projects with climate-responsive shared infrastructure.
Sports and Fitness Facilities
Fitness providers and operators stand to benefit from multifunctional, hybridized indoor-outdoor venues that enable subscription ecosystems and pop-up wellness programming.
