Grass Panel Furniture

The Clique Luxe is Modular Furniture Built with Perennial Grass Panels

The Clique Luxe collection is a modular furniture series by Studio TK that incorporates structural panels manufactured by Plantd as an alternative to conventional engineered wood products. The concealed core components are made from heat-pressed perennial grasses, replacing oriented strand board (OSB) without requiring changes to Studio TK's manufacturing process. The panels are designed to work with CNC machining while securely holding staples, nails, and screws, allowing them to integrate into existing furniture production methods. The collection demonstrates the material's use beyond the construction industry.

Plantd grows fast-growing perennial grasses before processing them into engineered panels intended to replace materials such as OSB, MDF, and HDF in a range of applications. The company currently operates farms covering approximately 400 acres in North Carolina, where both Plantd and Studio TK are based. According to the manufacturers, the panels provide durable structural performance while storing carbon within the material.

Grass-based Engineered Panels
Perennial grass composites are expanding beyond construction into furniture cores, creating lower-carbon substitutes for OSB, MDF, and HDF in established product lines.
Drop-in Sustainable Materials
Materials compatible with existing CNC machining and fastening systems reduce adoption friction for manufacturers seeking greener components without retooling operations.
Carbon-storing Furnishings
Furniture built with bio-based structural panels introduces embedded carbon storage as a product attribute for commercial interiors and specification-driven markets.

Who This Affects Most

Furniture Manufacturing
Modular furniture producers gain access to alternative structural cores that preserve production efficiency while improving sustainability credentials.
Engineered Wood Products
Bio-based panel makers are challenging conventional wood composites by offering durable, machinable materials made from rapidly renewable agricultural inputs.
Commercial Interiors
Workplace and hospitality environments can incorporate lower-carbon modular systems that align material choices with corporate sustainability and design goals.
