Minimalist Cantilevered Pegs

The Cliffhanger Coat Hooks Use Exposed Water Pipes Resourcefully

The contemporary design taste is gearing back towards those honest elements of older interiors that reveal the inner workings of buildings. The Cliffhanger Coat Hooks draw a bit more of a focus to features like water pipes that run floor to ceiling in domestic spaces, by using them for support.

Inspired by the pre-war homes of Germany, designer Thomas Schmitz created these minimalist storage solutions that come with a bit of character. Five different colored finishes each represent a different city: Berlin is gray, Cologne is yellow, Frankfurt is red and Munich and Hamburg are shades of blue.

Their simple wireframe forms take an H shape that allows the contraption to hook between a pair of parallel tubes. The strength of the Cliffhanger Coat Hooks improves when the weight of handbags, jackets and other garments are slung over the protruding ball.
