Cinematic Virtual Reality Ads

MINI Used Virtual Reality Short Films in Its New Campaign

For its newest ad campaign, MINI has chosen to release a series of cinematic virtual reality short films. MINI is the first car maker to embrace this new technology, diverging from traditional car commercials by incorporating VR and movie-like acting and storylines.

Each film was shot in Barcelona with a custom stereo rig with nine RED dragon cameras. A seven-camera GoPro rig was specially designed to capture the interior of the car during the scenes shot in the MINI.

The video is also much longer than typical commercials, running over five minutes long. The innovative ad campaign is responsible for two videos that allows viewers to virtually explore the various settings where the commercials are shot. The video titled 'Real Memories' follows a young man with Amnesia struggling to regain important memories.
