Composed out of a rainbow of colors, the 'New Floats' sculpture series by Christian Haub plays with a viewer's perception. The artist pays tribute to the aesthetic of famed painter Piet Mondrian and creates linear compositions using layered pieces of plexiglass.
Christian Haub has been creating art since the 1990s with an aim to create pieces that appear to float upon the surface on which they are hung. The New York based artist creates a series of three-dimensional portraits that are composed of parallel planes of the acrylic material. These acrylic elements and are strategically placed and colored in vibrant hues that allow them to reflect and refract light.
While they do endorse a sense of simplicity and minimalism, these light-modulating art pieces are also reminiscent of pop-art masterpieces seen throughout the 60s.
