The charcoal drink stirrer known as the Chikutan Stick is used in Japan to absorb impurities in alcohol or tea. The sticks can often be found in high-end Japanese bars and are currently available for sale.
The Chikutan Sticks are made from a white charcoal, which is derived from Japanese bamboo. Simply run the stick under hot water, give your drink a few stirs and the charcoal will absorb all the impurities in your drink.
The Chikutan Stick in a nice addition to the ever-expanding mixology market and it will be interesting to see how U.S.-based Spirits companies respond.
