These Gourmet Fritters are Filled with Ricotta and Topped with Gooey Honey

Retailer Willian Sonoma has put together a recipe for these delicious mini cheese donuts that are filled with a savory ricotta cream. Despite the use of cheese in these fried desserts, the donuts are very sweet thanks to the inclusions of contrasting flavors such as lemon, vanilla and thyme.

This recipe artfully mixes together both sweet and savory flavors to offer a popular fried design in a new, artisan and homespun fashion. The donuts are rustic in shape served in tiny round balls rather than rings. The dough is made from scratch using eggs, sugar, vanilla, flour, ricotta cheese and grated lemon zest that is then fried in canola oil. To serve, the donuts are paired with a honey drizzle made from honey infused with lemon and thyme.
