English studio HAPA Architects has developed a strikingly modern charred timber home. Located in a conservation area in Sussex, England, the structure effortlessly, almost inconspicuously, blends with the natural landscape. Additionally, the architects took advantage of the beautiful views afforded by the South Downs National Park and installed "large picture windows" to frame the lush surroundings. The residence is appropriately named Black Timber House.
HAPA Architects wanted to curate an elevated aesthetic for the charred timber home. The practice used "deep-grain charred English larch" and created material accents throughout the exterior of the building by incorporating "natural copper guttering and dark slate roofs."
The charred timber home is spread across two floors and the layout emphasizes the joys of open-concept living.
