Modern Interpreted English Homes

Threefold Architects Designs the Eight Gables Home

London design firm Threefold Architects has refreshed the Eight Gables home in a way that reimagines a modern angle. The team blends red brick and timber materials at the home located in Whitstable, Kent by replacing the former dwelling. It maintains the original Tudor style which is notably prevalent in the areas as well. The influence informs the layout of the home as the living areas have a pinwheel organization around a central fireplace.

Ryan Hakimian, associate at Threefold Architects notes, "Reinterpreting the local historic Tudor architecture of the area was both an exciting opportunity and a serious challenge, as we had to create a contemporary and sustainable home which respects the historical context while also avoiding pastiche. We identified from the outset some key features of historic Tudor architecture that we wanted to incorporate: an expressed timber post-and-beam structure, a spatial arrangement around a central fireplace, and a strong connection to a mature garden setting."
