Cava Sommelier Competitions

D.O. CAVA Opens Its U.S. Sommelier Contest at SommCon San Diego

D.O. CAVA is opening the U.S. edition of its 'International Best Cava Sommelier Competition' to sommeliers nationwide, using 'Cava de Guarda Superior' as the focus for tasting and tableside service. The event runs at SommCon in San Diego with the Best USA Sommelier Association, asking entrants to explain these top-tier sparkling wines to guests.

A field of 10 begins with a 30-minute blind tasting, after which the top performers move to live service following a D.O. CAVA masterclass. 'Paraje Calificado' sits at the top of Cava de Guarda Superior and requires at least 36 months of aging, providing entrants with a clear quality marker.

Holding the event at SommCon in San Diego makes Cava de Guarda Superior a visible educational program in the U.S. hospitality market. Centering service alongside blind tasting turns expertise into pairings and list recommendations, broadening the wines' role in premium dining rooms.
