The Savor Southern Oregon 2026 wine competition, organized by Travel Medford and presented by Ko-Kwel Casino Resort Medford, has announced its award winners following a blind tasting of over 150 entries by a panel of nationally recognized experts. The panel included Bob Paulinski MW, Joel Butler MW, and Michael Alberty.
The Savor Southern Oregon 2026 wine competition bestowed honors for Best of Show Red Wine for Twelve 32 Wine’s 2022 Fortmiller Vineyard Cabernet Franc, Best of Show White Wine for Peter William Vineyard’s 2024 Viognier from Daisy Creek Vineyard, and Best of Show Specialty Wine for Twelve 32 Wine’s 2022 Blanc de Noirs, with additional Best of Class awards going to wines spanning Malbec, red blends, rosé, Syrah, and Tempranillo. The competition highlighted the Rogue Valley’s remarkable diversity across Rhône, Spanish, Portuguese, Bordeaux, and Burgundian varieties, with judges praising the region’s high-quality standards, broad stylistic range, and the evident positive energy among its producers.

Key Themes Behind This Trend
- Blind-tasting Credibility
- Anonymous judging formats create stronger trust signals for emerging wineries by separating product quality from brand recognition, price point, or regional prestige.
- Regional Variety Showcases
- Southern Oregon’s broad mix of Rhône, Spanish, Portuguese, Bordeaux, and Burgundian varietals reflects an opening for lesser-known wine regions to differentiate through diversity rather than single-grape identity.
- Expert-led Wine Discovery
- Nationally recognized tasting panels give consumers and trade buyers a clearer discovery mechanism for boutique producers competing in crowded premium wine markets.
Where This Applies
- Wine and Spirits
- Small producers gain more visibility when third-party competitions transform limited-production bottles into award-backed products with stronger retail and distribution appeal.
- Travel and Tourism
- Wine competitions tied to regional destinations expand culinary tourism by turning local awards, vineyard visits, and producer stories into marketable travel experiences.
- Hospitality and Resorts
- Casino resorts and hospitality venues become cultural anchors when they sponsor premium food and beverage events that connect entertainment, local agriculture, and destination branding.
