Cap by Florian Gross, an industrial designer born in Germany and based in Barcelona, Spain, is a pendant light that sports a rather unique lampshade. Instead of embracing the light bulb it is meant to diffuse even in a shallow way, the lampshade maintains a straight edge like the horizontal plane of the sahara. All that is needed in a tree and sunset to complete the view.
Made out of a thin piece of aluminum board, Cap by Florian Gross does have a sculptural aesthetic in spite of the simplicity of its design. Interpreting gravity in its own way, as the designer puts it, the pendant light is unassuming in all other ways. As Gross writes, "Nothing more, just pure straightness."
