LA studio Kevin Daly Architecture and the Mexico City-based studio Productora worked together on this contemporary and minimalist canopied building. Located in Spotts Park, northwest of Downtown Houston, the structure was built as the headquarters for the local institution Houston Endowment.
Besides emphasizing minimalism in the design, Kevin Daly Architecture and Productora also turned their attention to sustainability. The canopied building has built-in functionality. For example, the latticed canopy offers "passive cooling for the structure." In addition, the piece is equipped with photovoltaic panels, allowing it to provide sustainable energy to the headquarters too.
Through the minimalist design of the structure, Kevin Daly Architecture and Productora pay homage to "one of Houston's most characteristic features: the landscape of trees." As such, the canopied building integrates itself well among the oak groves that surround it.
