Melting Automotive Art

The Canadian Tire Ice Truck is a Driveable Ice Sculpture

Chances are that those who watched the 2014 NHL Winter Classic saw a commercial featuring the Canadian Tire Ice Truck. The ice sculpture functions both as a work of art and a truck, although it's a bit limited when it comes to performing as the latter. The heavily modified truck weighs in at 15,000 pounds of which 11,000 pounds of that is ice. There were actually three trucks built: one for testing, another for an ad shoot and one to be used to set a Guinness World Record.

The Canadian Tire Ice Truck was modified so that the heat from its engine wouldn't melt the ice as it attempted to set a new category Guinness World Record for distance driven in an ice truck (or something like that). The truck ended up going one mile, which is a pretty impressive feat considering how heavy it is and that it was constantly melting.
