Abusive Partner PSAs

This Canadian PSA Campaign Considers the Obsessive Actions of Abusive Men

In time for Valentine's Day, Canadian PSA released a campaign that highlights different men talking about "the one that got away."

At first, the commercial seems rather sweet, as the men talk lovingly about women they once knew. As it progresses, the subject becomes much darker, as they begin to confide the obsessive actions they took to prevent these women from leaving them. One man says that he didn't eat and another says that he called her repeatedly to try to convince her to come back to him. With a tinge of anger in his voice, one even says, "She’s mine, she’s my girl, she’s not gonna be with anyone else."

By showing this side to domestic abuse, Canadian PSA makes it clear that problematic relationships aren't always black and white. In addition, it shows that leaving an abusive partner can be incredibly difficult, as most tend to be possessive and dangerous when they don't have their way.
