The BrailleDoodle is an educational apparatus engineered to facilitate the learning of Braille and the creation of tactile graphics through a reusable physical interface. The device consists of a plastic tablet containing a grid of over a thousand miniature holes, each housing a metal ball that can be raised to the surface using a magnetic stylus to form perceptible dots. These raised formations can be smoothed away with a touch, allowing for repeated practice and use.
The BrailleDoodle is divided into two primary zones — one side provides structured guidance for learning Braille characters, numbers, and contractions, while the opposite side offers a blank, gridded area for freeform drawing or diagramming. As a purely mechanical device, the BrailleDoodle functions without batteries or electronic components.
