Today, astronauts are primarily scientists carrying out studies, but 'Blue Abyss' will be an astronaut facility with an entirely different purpose. The Bedfordshire, United Kingdom, facility aims to be the world's first training center for commercial astronauts.

Though such careers don't exist yet, it won't be long before astronauts will be sent into space on missions entirely focused on commercial gains. Whether space mining, telecoms technicians, space vehicle and vessel repairs, or a plethora of other careers, people will soon be needed to satisfy the demands of humanity's increased presence in space.

With a pool 50 meters deep as well as other state-of-the-art training equipment, Blue Abyss will train commercial astronauts before they make their heavenly ascents. In the meantime, Blue Abyss will also serve as a training center for elite athletes.
