Bitcoin-Mining Heater Elements

Heatbit’s Bitwater Turns A Water Heater Element Into A Bitcoin Mine

Heatbit has developed Bitwater, a replacement heating element that lets households heat water while mining Bitcoin. Designed for compatible 30- to 80-gallon tank water heaters in the US and Canada, the DIY component allows owners to add mining hardware without replacing the entire appliance.

The unit delivers up to 34 terahashes per second (TH/s) while producing up to 600 watts of heat. Heatbit says its cooler operating profile helps limit limescale build-up, while a titanium anode is designed to reduce corrosion and extend the element’s lifespan.

The Genesis batch is scheduled to ship in the first quarter of 2027. By combining a routine water-heater component with Bitcoin mining, Bitwater offers a different approach to home hardware, though its appeal will depend on factors such as electricity costs, mining returns and compatibility with existing systems.

Appliance-embedded Mining
Household systems with integrated compute functions create new value models where everyday energy use can offset costs through digital asset generation.
Dual-purpose Home Hardware
Multifunctional components that merge utility tasks with revenue-generating processes point to a broader shift in appliance design and consumer ROI expectations.
Thermal Compute Reuse
Waste heat from intensive computing becomes a practical resource for domestic heating applications, reframing energy consumption as a recoverable household input.

Who This Affects Most

Home Appliances
Water heaters and other core household products gain room for differentiation through modular upgrades that add connected, financial or computational capabilities.
Cryptocurrency Mining
Residential mining formats broaden participation by embedding hash power into familiar infrastructure rather than relying on dedicated rigs or specialized facilities.
Residential Energy
Home energy ecosystems are influenced by devices that combine consumption, heat production and potential income streams into a single installed asset.
