These new bio-based jars are being launched by NIVEA for its Naturally Good face care range to provide consumers with a packaging option that is reported by the brand to be a 100% climate neutralized product. The jars for the product look and feel like virgin plastic but are reported to contain 41-grams less virgin plastic each, which equates to an elimination of 266-tons of petroleum-based plastic per year, according to Beiersdorf. The packaging makes use of tall oil in the formulation as a more sustainable alternative to crude oil.
The new NIVEA bio-based jars come as part of the brand's continued commitment to sustainability and is reported by the brand to save roughly 76-grams of CO2 from being released per jar. This equates to a 60% savings compared to virgin plastic alternatives.
