Ben Marcin has been able to evoke serious emotion out of the pictures he takes, and this series is a sad depiction of neighborhoods that no longer exist.
Marcin went into areas in Camden, Philadelphia and Baltimore, and searched for places that have been gentrified. Once, where rows of homes created neighborhoods, there are now one lonely house left standing. The reason why these photos are so emotional is because these were communities, usually low-rental or blue collar, and now there is no one left. The pictures showcase many lives that have been uprooted, all in the name of making the area better.
The simplicity of these pictures is also beautiful. Ben Marcin has taken minimalist pictures of these lifeless neighborhoods, but his photos act as a memorial for the communities that once existed.
