The baby formula sculpture by famous Chinese artist Ai Weiwei addresses the tainted baby milk scandal that arose in 2008. It is essentially an artwork depicting a map of China made up of different international brands of baby formula. Impressive in both scale and significance, the baby formula sculpture also addresses the repercussions the country now faces after the scandal.
Since the scandal, parents have been rightly worried about their babies ingesting formula made locally. This resulted in an influx of foreign formula purchases which in turn prompted to Chinese government to place a limit on how much can be taken out of the city state. Smuggling being some people's only options, the baby formula sculpture takes on a whole new meaning.
