Patience-Encouraging Autism PSAs

This Short Video Shows How Overwhelming Some Interactions Can Be

Holly, a young girl who lives in the UK, reportedly used this autism PSA to show her classmates a little of what she experiences on a daily basis.

Although the interactions that occur throughout the video would seem entirely arbitrary to those who don't have developmental disabilities, the rushed conversations cause Holly, also the star of the video, to become increasingly troubled. At the beginning of the autism PSA, Holly hops onto a bus, where she's greeted by a bus driver who asks where she's off to. When she takes time to utter a response, he asks if she's alright. She avoids the conversation and sits down, only to have another child quickly ask her more questions. Throughout the day, memories of the questions pile up, and she eventually has a meltdown.

By depicting how overwhelming too much information at once can be for those with developmental disabilities, this autism PSA aims to show viewers that they need to be patient when engaging in conversation.
