Ancestral Futures is an interdisciplinary art exhibition by Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno at Haus der Kunst in Munich, Germany. On view through February 7, 2027, the exhibition transforms the museum into an immersive environment exploring the interconnected relationships between humans, plants, animals, and the atmosphere. The presentation is anchored by Saraceno's long-running Aerocene and Arachnophilia research initiatives, which examine fossil fuel-free mobility, ecological systems, and the complex structures created by spiders.
The exhibition also premieres El Santuario del Agua (The Sanctuary of Water), a new land art commission developed with 11 Indigenous communities from Red Atacama in Northern Argentina. The collaborative work examines the environmental and social impacts of lithium extraction while highlighting Indigenous knowledge and ecological stewardship. The exhibition presents new perspectives on collective living and environmental responsibility.
