Photographer Lee Towndrow's 'Anachronisms No. 1' brings a set of seniors back in time. The elderly men and women are dressed here in slouchy hats, zip up sweaters and chains, mimicking the appearance of a young gang.
Writer Heather Morton describes Towndrow as having "...inverted our expectations..." in Anachronisms No 1. This is indeed the effect given off by the series. The seniors quickly take on the unlikely looks of street hooligans, puffing rolled cigars and wielding skateboards as they walked through a gritty neighborhood.
What's most interesting about Towndrow's work is how natural it all appears. The aged assume the personas of the youth with marked ease, pointing to how little our personalities change over the course of time.
