A recently announced partnership between AMC Theaters and Dolby will see the incorporation of the cutting edge Dolby Cinema system to many of the chain's theaters stateside. The first screens to be powered by the supercharged system will be installed starting May 2015.
Components of the Dolby Cinema system that will find its way to many of AMC's screens includes the Dolby Atmos audio system and a theatrical version of Dolby Vision. Dolby Atmos is an audio system that allows for up to 128 audio tracks, while Dolby Vision is a high dynamic range display solution that offers brighter images and comes in the form of dual 4K laser projectors.
As consumers spend more and more time and money on at-home streaming services such as Netflix, an upleveled in-theater experience is sure to bring the crowds back to traditional screens.
