Johannesburg photographer Alexia Webster has taken a series of free family pictures for South African members of the Du Noon, Cape Town, Woodstock and Blikkiesdorp communities. Webster was frustrated by her industry's high prices and in response, she created temporary impromptu photo studios in the streets of the local neighborhoods.
Those who were lucky enough to visit the studios had their pictures taken and were given copies on the spot. One of the objectives was to allow participants to add to their family albums without have to pay for pricey snapshots, certainly the norm for those looking for new images.
The short-term studios are both funky and professional. Dark rock backdrops are contrasted with bright prints, giving way to interesting contrasts.
