Métaphores work in collaboration with London and Singapore-based design studio Atelier Pedhapa on the new AKAR furniture series. Métaphores is a sister company of Hermes and it is an expert in weaving and fabric materials for interior design. Atelier Pendhapa joins the imprint to create nine pieces of furniture that highlight different types of horsehair fabric -- all of which have been hand-woven by Métaphores.
The horsehair used in fabric materials is a natural byproduct, commonly practiced in Asia, specifically Mongolia. Together, the duo works to choose a range of fabrics that perfectly highlight their plethora of techniques. The horsehair was woven in Challes, which is a region in Sarthe, France. Additionally, the teak woods and solid mahogany were carved at Atelier Pendhapa's studio located in Indonesia.
