Aircraft Engine Testing Facilities

The Canadian Government Will Fund a New Facility for Aircrafts

The Canadian government has announced a $180 million investment to establish a state-of-the-art aircraft engine testing and maintenance facility at Calgary International Airport. This initiative is led by Prairies Economic Development Canada and supported by the Canada Infrastructure Bank. The project may have implications for enhancing the aviation sector’s transition to lower-emission engines and sustainable aviation fuels.

The 150,000-square-foot aircraft engine testing and maintenance facility is set to break ground in mid-2025 and open by 2027. It will be the first of its kind in Canada. The facility is expected to create approximately 160 permanent jobs by 2030, along with 170 temporary construction roles, while benefiting over 30 small- and medium-sized businesses in the aviation supply chain. Lufthansa Technik, a key partner, will operate the facility, with WestJet as its primary client.
