Ordinarily, vending machines will release products that have been paid for by any user but a new generation of age-restricted vending machines is being introduced thanks to the Civic Pay platform. The blockchain-based platform is capable of verifying a user's identity and age, while also helping them make the most of QR code mobile payments, as well as loyalty and rewards programs.
When it comes to using the machines, consumers are required to participate in a one-time online identity verification check with a document that shows proof of their date of birth. As such, the vending machines are able to sell age-restricted products like alcohol.
Similar in-store technology is being implemented in some in-store checkout systems when it comes to the sales of age-restricted goods and ensuring the products can legally be purchased by customers.
