Fala Atelier’s Porto House Flips a Roof for an Expressive Architecture

— August 21, 2025 — Art & Design
Fala Atelier designed a residence in Porto that reimagines suburban architecture by inverting the pitched roof. One side sweeps in a curve while the other remains straight, producing a bold silhouette that seems to hover above a translucent base. The façade is conceived like a collage, with bright white walls contrasted by playful geometry, circular and square windows, and shutters painted in green and blue. These choices give the house an identity that feels both contemporary and whimsical.

Inside, slender light green concrete columns create deliberate moments of tension by occasionally standing in the path of circulation. The living area opens directly onto the garden, while an upper level office looks outward over the city. A quarter circle extrusion forms the master bedroom, lending a sculptural quality to private space. Throughout the house, straight, curved, folded, and tilted planes intersect to create unexpected harmony. The result is a home that is experimental yet livable, proving architecture can be both daring and human.
