Urban Pod Networks

Glydways Launches Its Personal Pod Pilots & Backed by Khosla Ventures

Glydways, a San Francisco startup backed by Khosla Ventures and co-led investors including Suzuki Motor Corporation and ACS Group, raised $170 million in a Series C round to advance its personal autonomous pods, featuring vehicles built to run on dedicated 2-meter-wide city lanes. The company, founded in 2016, said its pods are designed to move riders on compact guideways with lower infrastructure footprints than traditional rail. Glydways detailed plans for three pilot programs in 2026—Atlanta, New York City and the United Arab Emirates—and has discussed an additional $250 million raise to scale toward a 2027 commercial rollout.

For consumers, the pods promise more frequent, localized transit with lower per-lane construction cost and higher throughput than some mass-rail options, reflecting a wider urban trend toward compact, distributed mobility alternatives.

Personal Autonomous Pods
Personal autonomous pods enable hyper-local, on-demand transit along narrow guideways, challenging traditional mass-rail capacity and cost structures.
Compact Guideway Infrastructure
Compact two-meter guideways create opportunities for inserting transit into existing urban streetscapes with minimal land acquisition.
Distributed Mobility Hubs
Distributed networks of frequent, short-run services increase throughput and decentralize peak loads across city transit systems.

Sectors Adopting This

Urban Planning
City planning frameworks may shift toward accommodating micro-scale transit corridors and rethinking zoning and curb allocations.
Construction and Infrastructure
Infrastructure firms face a market for low-footprint, rapid-deploy guideway construction and modular civil works tailored to compact lanes.
Automotive and Av Manufacturing
Vehicle manufacturers and AV suppliers could pivot to produce lightweight, purpose-built pods and integrated propulsion-control systems for high-density operations.
