Voice AI Drive-Thru Systems

Taco Bell Scales Its AI Drive-Thru Ordering to Almost 900 Stores

Taco Bell expanded its voice-enabled AI drive-thru ordering system to more than 890 U.S. restaurants across 38 states. Powered by Omilia’s voice AI platform, the technology automates order-taking while adapting to each location’s menu, stock levels and limited-time offers.

The system uses small language models tuned for noisy drive-thru environments, allowing it to interpret slang, humor, mid-order changes and complex customizations with low latency. It also integrates with Taco Bell’s point-of-sale and loyalty systems while supporting handoffs to restaurant employees when needed. Taco Bell said voice AI transaction times are comparable to, and sometimes faster than, traditional ordering, with participating locations also reporting higher customer satisfaction and employee retention.

For customers, the wider rollout aims to improve order accuracy and reduce delays. For operators, it reflects growing investment in AI tools that automate repetitive tasks while allowing employees to focus on food preparation and in-store service
